It was the 1971 Grand Final between Angaston and Nuriootpa and the low scoring game had seesawed all day as a result of the howling gale. Nuri had won the Under 15s, the Under 17s and the B grade and were egotistically displaying the shields in the clubroom window, waiting for the big one to add to the winking collection.
